OUR VALUES

We value the practice of yoga as an expression of authentic self and ask our teachers and students to seek to live their lives mindfully and consciously in order to find the best versions of themselves possible.

We value the practice of yoga for the social, emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual health and growth that it supports.

We value community, inclusivity and generosity of spirit.

We take our practice seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.  Yoga is not a destination, rather, it is a journey to be experienced, to be enjoyed, to be loved.

GETTING STARTED: While all of our classes are led in a way that serves practitioners of any level, we recommend the following classes if you are new to yoga: Yoga Fundamentals, Hatha, Yin, Gentle Yoga, Restorative, or Slow Flow. Please view our schedule for days and times.
MIRRORS: We made a conscious decision to not have mirrors in our studio. We want to encourage inner awareness, self-acceptance, and to create an environment of non-judgement by reducing the distractions that mirrors can invite. Our teachers encourage students to feel their way rather than think their way through each pose. When we turn inward, relying on our physical sensations to guide us into a pose, we are honoring our bodies and enhancing the benefits of the asana. Mirrors can limit us from reaching a higher level of inner awareness and hinder our ability to fully enjoy each pose from the inside out.

MATS, TOWELS & PROPS: We encourage students to bring their own mat. A limited number of mats are available for rent for $2 per class. For hot classes, students are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat towel. All props (blocks, straps, bolsters, rollers, blankets & weights) are provided at no additional charge. We offer a selection of high-quality Manduka yoga mats and yoga mat towels for sale in our retail section.

CLASS TEMPERATURES: Hot classes are taught at 90 degrees. Non-heated classes are taught at an air conditioned 77 degrees.

BENEFITS OF HOT YOGA: In addition to the many benefits of yoga, practicing in a heated room offers the following:

  • Increased blood flow and circulation

  • Stimulation of the lymphatic system which aids in flushing out toxins from the body

  • Increased muscle and joint flexibility

  • Strengthening of the immune system

  • Increased metabolism

WHAT TO BRING: For all yoga & barre classes, bring a yoga mat and a bottle of water. For hot yoga classes, in addition to a yoga mat and water, we recommend bringing a yoga mat towel to lay on top of your mat to help increase grip and sweat absorption. Small hand towels are provided at no additional charge.

THINGS TO KNOW

OUR STORY

Latitude Yoga Co. was founded in 2014 by Catie Nawrocki with a mission to serve the local Stafford community through yoga, meditation and wellness.

In October 2019, Catie sold the studio to Rich Girven who is dedicated to building upon Catie's good work to help Latitude and its students reach their full potential on and off the mat.

Rich has a long association with South Asia and holds a Masters of Arts in Asian Studies with a focus on South Asian religion and culture.  A scholar of Sanskrit and Pali, Rich spent time studying many of the sacred texts that underpin the ancient practice of yoga. Even though he lived in India and travelled extensively in South Asia between 1994 and the present, Rich did not actually step onto the yoga path until late in 2014.  Following several months of consistent practice and personal growth, Rich began to see and feel the powerful effects that yoga had on his physical, emotional and spiritual health and entered teacher training a year later. Now an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (ERYT-200) with more than 1200 hours of teaching experience, Rich is dedicated to providing his students the best possible opportunity to explore their potential for personal growth and well-being.

CHECK-IN: Before entering the studio room, please give your name to our front desk staff so they may check you in to class.

STRONG SCENTS: For the consideration of others, please refrain from wearing perfumes, fragrances, colognes and scented oils, or lotions to class.

YOGA MAT TOWELS: Use of a yoga mat towel over your mat is recommended for all hot classes to increase grip and absorption.
